BOOK STUDY - The Art & Science of Teaching Primary Reading

Join us for an online book study and discussion about Christopher Such’s The Art and Science of Teaching Primary Reading.

This book is an excellent place to start if you are just beginning your journey into the Science of Reading (SoR) or Structured Literacy (SL). It is written in an accessible, common sense style for teachers by a teacher with plenty of experience teaching reading. Like many of us, frustrated with the reading results of his students, he went on a deep dive into the reading research and lucky for us decided to write this excellent guide book.

Join us over five sessions hosted each fortnight by Sue Hiland and Michelle Waterman from Teaching Together. You can find more about us here.

“Teaching children to read is one of the most important tasks undertaken by primary schools, and a secure foundation of knowledge is crucial to classroom practice. Teachers need to know what reading entails, how children learn to do it and how it can be taught most effectively.”

CHRISTOPHER SUCH is a senior leader in primary school and the author of the education blog Primary Colour. He can be found on Twitter via @Suchmo83.”
